Allison and I met because I completed an evaluation for her adversary. We were equally impressed by each other’s professionalism but there was a greater appreciation for each other’s character and kindness. I like to think that God just understood the assignment about the purpose of our connection and knew we needed each other in a more personal way. Allison and I grew from being Broadway buddies, to presenting nationally and internationally on topics related to law and mental health, to me witnessing her fall in love with her sweetheart, Ron. I mean how to really talk to girls. Not game. Game only gets somebody played. He told me the best rap game leaves everybody happy, and I found my wife that way. He’s been a role model to me, and his own children. It’s about time the world paid him back.

Allison and I met at the luncheon banquet table of a law firm management seminar. I handed her my business card, feeling quite accomplished—after all, I had finally taken our business coach’s advice and added my photo, despite serious reservations. She looked at it, looked at me, and without missing a beat said: “Why does your business card look like you DON’T want people to hire you?” Before I could click on her for that perceived insult, we clicked as friends. And just like that I realized: that’s Allison—honest, bold, hilarious, and somehow always right. Allison is sharp, fearless, and one of the most authentic people I know. She says the things you didn’t know you needed to hear—and maybe didn’t want to—with equal parts fire and grace. A beautiful, formidable soul—and I love her for it.

Seeing her with Ron has been a joy. He brings a calm, steady presence to her fire and brilliance. Together, they are grounded, joyful, and the very definition of balance.
